Crown Zenith is the Sword & Shield era’s farewell — a special set released in January 2023 to close out three years of VMAX, VSTAR and alternate-art mania. It was never sold in standard booster boxes: packs came only through Elite Trainer Boxes, tins and premium collections, which shaped both its pull rates and its price behavior ever since.

The value lives almost entirely in the Galarian Gallery, the 70-card art subset (GG01–GG70) that gave the era’s biggest names one last premium print. Giratina VSTAR GG69 is the headliner, with Mewtwo, Arceus and the Sinnoh creation dragons close behind.

As a special set, Crown Zenith was printed heavily but opened unevenly — sealed product remains everywhere, yet the Gallery’s top secrets stayed expensive because the GG hit rate is low and the subset’s biggest names concentrate demand. It plays the same market role Hidden Fates’ Shiny Vault did for the Sun & Moon era: the send-off set whose art subset becomes the era’s time capsule.

03  Understanding Crown Zenith Rarity Tiers

Galarian Gallery secrets (GG61–GG70): the gold-frame closing stretch — Giratina, Arceus, Dialga, Palkia and friends. This is where the set’s four-figure graded cards live.

Galarian Gallery art rares (GG01–GG60): full-bleed artwork prints of the era’s stars, from Pikachu to the Eeveelution VSTARs. Most trade between $10 and $90 raw — the widest, most collectible middle class of any SWSH subset.

Main-set VSTARs & VMAXes (#1–159): playable-era staples, mostly single digits to ~$20 raw. The radiant and holo slots are binder material with a few sleepers.

Commons & uncommons: bulk — but era-closing bulk. Special-set commons have a way of becoming oddly hard to source in bulk lots a decade on.

04  Grading Guide: Crown Zenith

Modern print quality means Crown Zenith grades far better than vintage — but that cuts both ways: gem-mint populations are large, so the graded premium concentrates in the handful of Gallery cards with real raw prices. The etched texture on GG secrets hides light surface wear, so inspect edges and corners under angle light before submitting.

Practical guidance: below roughly $75 raw, grading fees eat most of the upside unless the copy is flawless. The GG61–GG70 stretch is where submissions make consistent sense. Era-closing special sets have a strong track record: they bottle an entire generation’s chase cards into one product that stays openable for years, then quietly appreciate once the sealed wave dries up. Three years post-release, Crown Zenith’s Gallery top-end has already firmed while the mid-tier stays accessible — the classic early-middle phase of that curve.

The set also benefits from being the SWSH era’s definitive send-off: when collectors get nostalgic for the VSTAR years, this is the set they come back to first — exactly as Hidden Fates became shorthand for the SM era.
