07Why Collectors Want It

  • Skyridge (2003) was the last set of the Wizards-of-the-Coast era and was severely short-printed in English, making its holos some of the scarcest vintage English Pokemon cards.
  • Gengar is one of the most beloved Kanto Pokemon, and the H9 holo from the 32-card 'H' subset is a marquee target for vintage collectors completing the set.
  • Raw copies trade around $1,746, while a PSA 10 has realized roughly $46,412 (PriceCharting, May 2026) - a ~26x grading premium that reflects how few survive in gem mint.
  • As the Stage 2 evolution of the Gastly to Haunter to Gengar line, it anchors one of the most collected evolution families in the hobby.

08Competitive Playability

Tier: None

Stage 2 Gengar with 100 HP; top attack around 40 damage. Functions as an evolution-chain piece rather than a tournament attacker.

09Card Moves and Abilities

Ability: Manipulate

When you play Gengar from your hand to evolve your Active Pokémon, you may put a Basic Pokémon (excluding Baby Pokémon) from your discard pile onto your Bench. Then, flip 3 coins. For each heads, choose a basic Energy card from your discard pile and attach it to that Pokémon.

Hydrokinesis Cost: Psychic + Psychic + Colorless + Colorless · 40 damage

Flip a coin. If heads, the Defending Pokémon is now Burned. If tails, the Defending Pokémon is now Confused.

10Grading and Population

PSA 10 estimate: ~$46,412 (PriceCharting realized, May 2026)

Gem-mint survivors are extremely scarce: Skyridge's foil stock and e-Card layout make high grades difficult, so PSA 10 copies command roughly 26x the raw price. Most graded examples land at PSA 8-9, which is why a true PSA 10 is a five-figure card.

Other graders: Negligible BGS/CGC submission volume.
