Pidove #519

Pidove — the Tiny Pigeon Pokémon, Unova's regional bird and the spiritual successor to Pidgey/Hoothoot/Taillow/Starly. A Normal/Flying-type wood pigeon with red-rimmed eyes and a fluttery first-route flavor. Famously Ash's very first Unova catch in the Best Wishes anime arc, which gives the line a sentimental tug that the more obscure early-Unova route Pokémon don't get.

01Top 10 Notable Pidove Cards

Pidove's Top 10 has real depth for a route-bird first-stage — the 2011 BW Black Star promo #BW15 leads at the top (one of the priciest BW promos in the catalog), the 2025 Black Bolt Illustration Rare sits in second, and a 2011 McDonald's Happy Meal promo holds the third spot. Behind those, the usual BW/XY/SWSH-era Common reprints settle into the bulk floor.

The 2025 throwback chase. Black Bolt's Illustration Rare gives Unova's first-route pigeon a painterly modern showcase — full-art, soft-focus, the cover-pull for the line in the throwback set. A clear second-tier chase behind the BW15 grail.

A 2011 McDonald's Happy Meal promo handed out the year Pidove debuted in English. Holo-foil, usually creased from kid-handling, but centered clean copies trade well above the asking price — Pidove benefits from being Ash's first Unova capture in the anime.

Boundaries Crossed was the late-2012 Plasma-themed set best remembered for Black Kyurem. Pidove got a Common reprint here for set-roster completeness — clean illustration, no in-game pedigree, slow nostalgia lift.

Unified Minds was the August-2019 SM-era set best known for the Reshiram & Charizard-GX Tag Team. Pidove is set-roster filler here — bulk in a set everyone otherwise broke for the chase Tags.
