Herdier #507

Herdier — the Loyal Pokémon, middle stage of the Lillipup → Herdier → Stoutland line, a Scottish-terrier-shaped Normal-type with a thick black coat and serious-business eyes. The puppy phase grew up; the noble-dog phase is still one stage away. Pokédex flavor calls Herdier the trainer's most loyal partner, and the line's design lineage (terrier → working dog → Saint-Bernard) is one of the cleanest evolutions Game Freak ever sketched out.

01Top 10 Notable Herdier Cards

Herdier is a thin middle-stage list — almost all the value lives in the 2025 White Flare Illustration Rare chase, with everything behind it firmly in the bulk tier. A wide reprint history (Black & White, XY, Dark Explorers, Boundaries Crossed, Sun & Moon, Cosmic Eclipse, Evolving Skies, Obsidian Flames, White Flare) means there are a lot of Herdiers in the world; almost none of them are worth more than a quarter.

The original. 2011 Black & White Uncommon — the very first English Herdier and the launch-set middle-stage that introduced players to the Lillipup line's growth arc. Bulk for over a decade; slowly creeping up as the Unova nostalgia wave keeps lifting the early route lines.

An XY-era 2014 reprint — Herdier appearing in a Kalos set, the kind of cross-generation Colorless Uncommon that filled XY-era expansions where it didn't really belong. Clean illustration, bulk price.

Dark Explorers was the May-2012 set built around the Dark-type Hydreigon line and the Team Plasma villains. Herdier earned an Uncommon slot for set-completion purposes — bulk filler with a tidy artwork.

Boundaries Crossed was the late-2012 Plasma-themed set best remembered for Black Kyurem. Herdier rode along as an Uncommon reprint; no in-game pedigree, just a clean middle-stage placeholder.

The 2017 Sun & Moon reprint — Herdier showing up in the era that built the Stoutland 'Mohn-the-wild-Pokémon' easter egg into its games. Bulk-bin price, but a sentimental pickup for SM-era Alola players.

Cosmic Eclipse was the December-2019 SM-era finale and one of the largest sets ever printed (236+ cards). Herdier is one of the many basic-line reprints filling out the long Uncommon tail.

Evolving Skies was the August-2021 SWSH-era megastar set powered by the Eeveelution VMAXes (Umbreon V-MAX is the famous 'Moonbreon' alt-art here). Herdier is set-roster filler — bulk in a set everyone otherwise broke open for chase pulls.

Obsidian Flames was the August-2023 Scarlet & Violet set built around Charizard ex variants. Herdier is bulk filler — pure binder-completion cardboard.
