Malamar is the Overturning Pokémon — the Dark/Psychic fully-evolved form of Inkay, an inverted squid with the franchise's first canonical hypnosis-based design. Malamar's Contrary Hidden Ability famously reverses stat changes, and in the TCG it became one of the era's defining engine-card centerpieces with multiple Psychic Recharge engine builds.
Malamar's chart is one of XY-era's deepest non-flagship lines — Malamar-EX FA at $19, VMAX rainbow at $7.82, two different promos in the $4 range, V/EX/SV/TG prints. Every card top-9 sits above $1.50.
Malamar-EX from Phantom Forces #115 is the line's grail at $19 — the full-art secret print of the Dark/Psychic EX from the November-2014 XY-block set best known for the banned Lysandre's Trump Card. Malamar-EX captured the Overturning Pokémon's hypnotic gaze in the full-art frame, and Phantom Forces full-arts have built strong long-term collector value.
