07Why Collectors Want It

  • Released in EX FireRed & LeafGreen, the 2004 EX-era Kanto-themed nostalgia set that anchored the Nidoking line for the era.
  • Reverse-holo raw asking sits around $47; the reverse-foil parallel is the version most graders chase here.
  • The headline FRLG grails are the Charizard/Blastoise/Venusaur ex chases, not the base Nidoking holo.
  • A natural pickup for any EX-era Nidoking-line completion run.

08Competitive Playability

Tier: None

Stage 2 Nidoking with 120 HP; top attack around 40 damage. Functions as an evolution-chain piece rather than a tournament attacker.

09Card Moves and Abilities

Ability: Power Gene

As long as Nidoking is in play, your attacks by Nidoran ♀, Nidorina, Nidoqueen, Nidoran ♂, and Nidorino do 10 more damage to the Defending Pokémon.

Earth Poison Cost: Fighting + Colorless · 40 damage

If the Defending Pokémon already has any damage counters on it, the Defending Pokémon is now Poisoned.

Bound Crush Cost: Fighting + Fighting + Colorless + Colorless

Choose 1 of your opponent's Pokémon. This attack does 60 damage to that Pokémon. (Don't apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokémon.) Nidoking can't use Bound Crush during your next turn.

10Grading and Population

PSA 10 estimate: Modern Common/Uncommon — most copies are not graded because raw value rarely justifies the fee.

Graded populations stay low; usually collected raw or sleeved rather than slabbed.

Other graders: Negligible BGS/CGC submission volume.
